WASHINGTON, D.C. - BELGRADE - May 6, 2008 - The BLAGO Fund released the archive from the church of St. Demetrios in the Patriarchate of Pec. The collection of 958 detailed fresco photographs, along with four virtual reality movies, is available on our web site as part of the Treasure collection. The Church of St Demetrios was built around 1320 by Archbishop Nikodim and was archived by the BLAGO team in the summer of 2007.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - BELGRADE - January 8, 2008 - The BLAGO Fund increased the accessibility of Serbian historical and artistic treasures today with the release of a new collection of photographs and media. As the first release from the BLAGO field expedition of July 2007 to the Patriarchate of Pec monastery complex, the full media from the church of St. Nicholas is available today on the BLAGO Fund web site. The collection consists of 253 detailed fresco photographs, as well as two virtual reality movies.

Washington - The Director of Programs for the Serbian Unity Congress Ivana Cerovic visited Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection and met with Mrs. Smiljka Soretic, Curator for Image Collections and Fieldworks Archives.

The Blago Fund Team of the Serbian Unity Congress donated three DVDs on Serbian monasteries that were created by its field team during their years of extensive work in Kosovo and Metohija.

Novo-Tikhvin Monastery Sisters share their testimony about Serbs

 

 "You can save the fatherland, the fruit of a 500-hundred-year-long battle. Save and preserve, o God, - the Serbian nation implores You". The words of the national anthem of Serbia say much about the people inhabiting this country. An anthem-prayer! Russia had this, too, a long time ago... The times may have changed, the way of life in our countries changed, but Serbians and Russians are still the brethren-nations. Just as it was a hundred years ago, the Russian songs are sung today in Serbia, and the Serbian ones - in Russia. The sisters of our abode verified this in practice: they recorded a CD with the patriotic songs of Serbia, the disk which will become a gift to the fraternal Serbian nation.

Sharing our Treasures Across the Ages and the World - BLAGO went to Patriarchate of Pec PDF Print E-mail

Pec2007-DSC_6393-small.jpgJuly 2007 - Pec, Kosovo & Metohija - For the past 10 years, the BLAGO (Treasure) Fund established by the Serbian Unity Congress has been preserving and promoting Serbian cultural heritage. Creating computerized virtual-reality libraries of the interiors and exteriors of our monasteries, we give people around the world -- Serbs and all others -- a chance to visit these faraway gems of our culture. The center of these treasures historically and in terms of sheer richness, is in the southern Serbian province of Kosovo-and-Metohija, a place that people can today only visit with a heavily armed escort of NATO troops to protect against Albanian attack.

Having already recorded virtual libraries of the monasteries of Gracanica (gra-cha-nee-tsa) and Decani (de-cha-nee) our BLAGO (Treasure) team set out this summer for the Patriarchate of Pec (pech), a Serbian crown jewel and beacon of Christianity in Kosovo-and-Metohija.
